In the belief that healthy outcomes require a high degree of collaboration, Abbott is working with the highly respected organization Partners In Health (PIH) in Haiti to treat severe malnutrition in children. Abbott experts designed and built an 18,000-square-foot facility that produces Nourimanba—a peanut-based, highly nutritious food supplement. Not only is Nourimanba being distributed free to children through PIH’s hospitals and clinics across rural Haiti, but the plant sources the peanuts from local farmers, who also receive training to produce more and better peanuts. The plant is also raising farmers’ incomes by producing peanut butter for sale from these locally grown peanuts.
Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010, the work by Abbott and PIH received significant media attention. Agenda’s telling of the Haiti story involved design and content development of a micro site, videos and fact sheets.
